3 Hot Resume Tips

Thursday, March 25th, 2010

The resume is the first thing an employer will see when considering you for a job. This is your first chance to impress them with who you are and what you are capable of. The problem is there is a probably a stack of resumes a mile high you have to contend with. This is why you need every possible opportunity to make sure your resume will stand out from the rest of the pack.

Give Yourself a More Descriptive Title

The title of the job you worked in the past was Account Manager. This is not very eye grabbing. If you are looking to work in a job which is in a technical field and your old job was in a technical field, take this opportunity to use a descriptive title like ‘Technologies Account Manager’. This shows your potential employer you have the ability to fill the position they have available with past history.

Customize Your Resume

It is a mistake to print out a stack of resumes to hand out all over town. If you are applying for a job, the resume should highlight all of the ways you are perfect for the job. This is impossible if you have created your resume for any general position which might be open.

Use Powerful Words

People reading resumes do not have a lot of time. You need to use language which is going to grab their attention and tell them you are the right candidate for the job. Avoid general descriptions and use words which show you possess leadership ability and intellect at the same time.

Dress Etiquette for the Female Interviewee

Thursday, January 28th, 2010

Many women go through a dilemma when they are getting dressed for an interview. They want to look as good as possible, yet still be professional. When getting ready for an interview, it is important to remember the world is still sexist. While it is understandable to want to rebel against this kind of mindset, it will not help you get a job. Keep a few things in mind when getting dressed.

Wear the Skirt

Pant suits are more professional in the minds of most women, but they do not help get a job. While it is not known as to exactly why, it has been statistically proven that women wearing skirts to interviews have a higher rate of getting a job offer. The skirt you wear should be below the knee. You should also be wearing nylons rather than stockings or tights.

Wear Pumps

It is not a good idea to wear heels to an interview. It is a much better idea to wear pumps. This is to give the impression that you know how to dress in a professional setting. The heels on the pumps you wear should be no higher than two inches.

Obviously, the level of dress will depend on the business you are applying at. This advice is intended for those looking to apply in a professional atmosphere. A good frame of mind to be in is to dress one level up or more conservative than the average worker in the environment. This will give the idea that you are serious, but you still fit in.
