The economy is making a rebound. The first thing people do when they have a little extra money is go out to eat. This presents an opportunity for people who are out of work or underemployed. Waiting tables is something which can be done as a second job, or a replacement for the poor job you currently have. Restaurants are hiring, so the only question is how to find a job?

Know Which Places Are Hiring

Not all restaurants will advertise when they have openings. You can guarantee when there is a posting of a restaurant in the paper it is going to be a cattle call. A better idea is to ask the restaurants in your area if they are hiring. Call at a time when the restaurant will not be busy. This will get you a better response to your inquiry.

Apply Interview Ready

When you go to a restaurant to fill out the application, bring along your resume. Get dressed stylish, yet not with a suit and tie. Show up in a time period which the restaurant will not be too busy. With any luck, you can talk to someone right away. Ask to be seen when you turn in the application.

When you do get the interview, make sure you highlight your ability to sell. You will also want to highlight your ability to multi-task. Talk about passion. Try to know something about the cuisine of the restaurant so you can talk about the food and your familiarity with it.
