If you’re looking at entry level jobs and discouraged that many of them seem to be only temporary part-time or full-time jobs, don’t fret. While those jobs might not be the ones you’re looking for, there are great reasons you should still consider applying for and going after a temp job that looks right for you. First, it’s easier to get a job when you have a job. If you’re unemployed right now, especially if you’re fresh out of college or job training, then taking that temp job gives you employment to list on your applications and resume. This raises the possibility of landing that entry level job you want.
Second, it’ll give you experience that you can draw on later. Even if the temp job you take isn’t in the exact type of work you want in your field, getting some job experience will help you in the long run.
Third, you never know what that temp entry level job might turn into. It’s not uncommon for firms to try out employees with temporary jobs, and offer the ones they like a permanent position. If that happens, your foot’s in the door and you’re in a better position to go after the job you really want.
